On woofers in ADS, KEF, and other vintage speakers:
I like ADS speakers and I own a pair myself, but they are prone to a problem where the woofer cone "bottoms out" with age (the cone assembly pulls in toward the magnets) This is due to the tight cabinet and heating/cooling of internal air. The voice coils are set in very narrow magnet gaps, and this can cause shorting of the voice coil, or rubbing/pulling the jumper "tinsel" lead out of the woofer. This is sometimes repairable if caught early enough. I try to inform people of this phenomenon – indeed, all woofers of this design type will have similar problems (KEF is worse; old AR and KLH seldom get totally bad, just a little off).
