Behringer RM600 Rotary Machine modification

This pedal has a very interesting design. Essentially, it is a flanger, delay, and pitch shifter fed back into itself. This is usually a very tough concept to execute and only emulated well in sophisticated and expensive rack mount processors.

The RM600 has by design a thick, broad sound, and switching it on slightly boosts the audio signal. This is acceptable for some, but my ear wants more midrange presence, a lower noise floor, and a reasonable level matching when switching the effect on or off. It took me a long time to figure this one out!

I change the value of three capacitors and resistors to fill out the range of the pedal. Now the effect is more complete over the range of guitar chards. It still is a warm sounding effect but now with far more upper harmonics to reveal more of the horn spinning effect. This mod also audibly reduces the excessive mid bass thickness for better clarity and a lower noise floor. It’s easy to add some thickness at the guitar amp, but once the highs are lost they can’t be equalized up.

Compared to most other stomp boxes on the market, the noise floor in these Behringer pedals is as good as or better than anything out there. I just make it better yet again. $74 for a brand new box modified by AudioPro.
