| ART PRO MPA Mic Preamp Modification (Modification) | Sep 12th, 2012 | | All in one Microphone preamp, Harmonic Enhancement controller, tube compressor design. The ART PRO MPA when fully modified is $980. It is truly still unique for some of the clever adjustment capabilities. The most obvious is the ability to adjust the level and phase of a very euphonic second harmonic distortion which is then gain rided. The preamp can sound thick, punchy, dense, edgy, silky, warm, strident, etc. It’s not just equalization… it is an alteration and enhancement of the original audio signal. PDF Manual Here This is a rough version manual we are making available now, however the final version manual will be available soon.
...Read More | | KLH (Burwen Research) TNE 7000A Modification (Modification) | Sep 12th, 2012 | | Vince, the shop owner, has worked as chief technician at KLH/Burwen Research and knows this equipment inside and out. Recently he was asked to possibly update and improve this unit. He modified the click sensor circuit to gain ride the audio ticks to allow easier and less critical “sensitivity” and “threshold” adjustment, so that the unit tolerates a greater range of audio level coming through without false “de-clicking” of audio transients. ...Read More | | Behringer B2 Pro Microphone AP Modification (Modification) | Sep 12th, 2012 | | First of all, most people would wonder why I should comment extensively on a microphone valued at under $200, but I would clearly explain that many $500 - $1000 mics are in fact various versions of inexpensive and similar microphones to a B2 Pro. The word is out. The recent wave of decent quality large and small plate condenser mics which proliferate the market now, are indeed Chinese, Japanese made microphones in whole or in some part. I personally will not knowingly misrepresent the facts or deceive my customers and friends into buying expensive name mics dressed up with fancy marketing. However in this business one can name “names” of good things only if you say nice things. I will comment about the real bargains which exist, and possibly alienate those people who are prejudiced towards fancy, expensive name equipment. Years from now the truth will become more obvious about the amazing quality of some “cheaper” brands. Certainly if one keeps an open mind ...Read More | | ART TPS II Modification (Modification) | Sep 12th, 2012 | | It appears that ART actually did take my advice and used some of my design concepts in the TPS II Preamp. The ART TPS II is a well built and flexible preamp with one control to vary the tube gain harmonic and equalization characteristics. The original TPS II system is a bit too heavy handed and obvious when processing the preamp signal. I correct this to an even higher quality sounding device with a more usable euphonic character. The $220 rev 6 version modification makes this unit even more tempered across the fifteen presets and creates a nicer “tube” sound. This machine is beautifully built and nicer looking than even some of the really fancy stuff on the market.
Most designs create an obvious tube character by high gaining or overdriving a tube to cause a little soft fuzz quality. The modification I do creates a consistent, nice second harmonic distortion without overdriving the tube, so that the tube must create the distortion at low sonic levels, enhancing more natural and subtle sonic details in the sound. The timbre of acoustic guitars or even complete mixes passed through the unit will be thickened or brightened depending upon which of the fifteen settings is selected at the front control. In fact, the tube gain is lessened, thereby improving the noise floor and dynamic headroom. In some settings, an Output Protection Limiter (OPL) engages for a true, soft “tube limiting” of the sound. This is a less obvious effect but perfect for acoustic preamping and reduces the chances of harsh clipping effects.
...Read More | | APT Holman Preamp Upgrade (Modification) | Sep 12th, 2012 | | Vince used to work for APT and has developed certain upgrades to increase the reliability, longevity, and fidelity of these already remarkable preamps and amplifiers. The preamp upgrade consists of three levels to suit your specific needs. ...Read More | | ART Pro Channel modification details (Modification) | Mar 18th, 2011 | | Details on the use of our custom tube harmonic enhancement device we build inside the ART Pro Channel. ...Read More | | ADS L9e Crossover Modification (Modification) | Mar 5th, 2010 | | We are very experienced in the repair and modification of this crossover. Our modification upgrades the power handling of the speaker to accommodate 100watt amps and they dynamic range of CD, improves fidelity, phase response and correctness, and allows the speaker to output stronger bass. ...Read More | | Behringer Composer Modification (Modification) | Aug 20th, 2009 | | Details of our modification to the Behringer Composer, which lowers the noise floor and distortion levels and smooths out the controls. ...Read More | | Behringer Edison Modification (Modification) | Aug 20th, 2009 | | Details of our modification to the Behringer Edison stereo image correction device, which lowers the noise floor especially when used with consumer level devices. ...Read More | | Behringer RM600 Rotary Machine Modification (Modification) | Aug 20th, 2009 | | Details of our modification to the Behringer RM600, which affects better level matching and creates a brighter and fuller effect. ...Read More | | Behringer TP300 Ultra Tremolo/Pan (Modification) | Aug 20th, 2009 | | This mod makes the chopping effect much more pronounced and less subtle. ...Read More | | CAD Trion 6000 (Modification) | Aug 20th, 2009 | | Details of our modification to the CAD Trion 6000 microphone. ...Read More | | Behringer Ultrabass EX1000 Modification (Modification) | Jul 30th, 2009 | | A brief introduction of our Ultrabass mod, which offers improved control and much finer detail. ...Read More | | APT Upgrades and Repairs Technical Information: (Modification) | Aug 28th, 2008 | | The APT 1 amplifier is a truly advanced product and even by today’s standard, a very modern audiophile amplifier design. Some of it’s design technology is only now being implemented in fancy name equipment. Seldom are so many of it’s clever design tricks for correctly stabilized feed back circuits, optimized impedance matching both at input stage design, power supply and output amplifier circuit have been utilized in total (even compared to fancier products.) ...Read More | | Electro Harmonix Tube Zipper Review and Modification (Modification) | May 9th, 2008 | | If an expensive guitar effects pedal exists, I expect it to do something special. Indeed in the EH Tube Zipper, here is another unique sounding pedal which I do not find duplicated in the DSP realm or from other manufacturers. The Zipper design is basically 4 tube stages being very high gained and over driven into a fuzz tone effect but with an auto wah filter circuit in the middle (like a Dunlop wah wah, etc. but no foot pedal to manually vary the wah)
...Read More | | Concerning Spring Reverbs and Modifications available: (Response to a letter RE: Master Room XL 404) (Modification) | Mar 9th, 2007 | | Spring reverbs are popular again. This unit has been serviced the spring pan assemblies opened and the transducer pick up coil assembly aligned and glued down to maintain reliable operation. The springs have also been “tuned” to make the reverb smoother over a wider frequency range. This is done by slightly shortening and slightly stretching the spring in sections to tune out severe spring resonances and excessive ringing. Both channels have matching service done. The unit still sounds like a spring reverb system, but the dynamic range and quality of the reverb is richer. This unit uses 2 sets of 3 springs per channel (quite a sophisticated version). I collect and modify the Orbans, Teacs, Fostex, Furmans, and AKGs. All get the same treatment (except the AKG “torsion spring” systems which remain untouched). Often times I am also adjusting the gain/level drive to and from the spring to improve the noise and to reduce the spring “rumble”. The result is better clarity, punch and air of sound quality. ...Read More | | Bellari Compressor Modification (Modification) | Jun 18th, 2006 | | I will comment about how my modified Bellari compressor works due to the fact that no other compressor exists that works quite like it. It uses both an optical vactrol style attenuator as well in the same circuit an audio transformer (originally a decent Beyer mic transformer) is used as a variable impedance transformer or “filter reactor” style design to assist in compression and equalization as the signal level is compressed. ...Read More | | Electrix Repeater (Modification) | Jan 19th, 2006 | | Although the Electrix Repeater is a great tool/instrument, there are several things that can be done to make it even better. Vince's modification takes care of many clicking noises made by the clocking circuit. As well as greatly reducing these noises, the modification also reduces the hum floor. The overall improvement is about a 10-20 dB drop in the overall noise. More importantly, this modification gives the Repeater increased clarity and more dynamic range. These changes greatly improve the sound when overdubbing. ...Read More | | ADA MP1 Guitar Tube Preamp (Modification) | Jan 1st, 2006 | | My circuit alterations are very neatly done and can be undone if required. The unit in general will be less buzz saw sounding and can be easier to program warm tube overdrive sound into it. Ultimately, the unit will have “Voicings” which can be made more intense or subtle, i.e. more crank, or more silky overdrive, or cleaner for the “Acoustic” sound. ADA’s engineers and I, about 20 years ago, would swap ideas and the engineer who developed this product apparently later included some of my modification into the MP2. I did this same modification for many serious pro players in the 1980’s. The cost is $195.00 which includes all cost of parts and return shipping (parts may be tubes, connectors, or capacitors, about 20 parts maybe installed.) ...Read More | | Phase Linear (Modification) | Sep 12th, 2005 | | I've been modifying these units for twenty plus years and have come to realize many people want its sound character left intact but want to reduce the noise, poor channels separation, intermittent connectors and improved calibration of the enhancement effects is very audible and desirable. The unit still retains its same "tube-a-phonic" sound but all functions track more accurately. At this point in time I can still do the modification and repairs for about $180-(if you ship in a good box) this includes all shipping and parts to return. ...Read More | | Digitech Time Machine 7.6 (Modification) | Jun 15th, 2005 | | This modification includes adding compression, matching the delay line to clean up the echo, lowering the noise floor, and giving the unit up to 27 seconds of delay (with only slightly limited bandwidth!).This is extremely useful for avante garde and ambient artists.
The cost is $135.
This includes all modifications and shipping within the continental US. ...Read More |
