We also offer consultation and installation for sound reinforcement, studio, and Hi-Fi applications.
Over the years, the shop owner, Vince Naeve, has developed modifications to certain pieces of equipment. These modifications will be posted here as they become available.
My circuit alterations are very neatly done and can be undone if required. The unit in general will be less buzz saw sounding and can be easier to program warm tube overdrive sound into it. Ultimately, the unit will have "Voicings" which can be made more intense or subtle, i.e. more crank, or more silky overdrive, or cleaner for the "Acoustic" sound. ADA's engineers and I, about 20 years ago, would swap ideas and the engineer who developed this product apparently later included some of my modification into the MP2. I did this same modification for many serious pro players in the 1980's. The cost is $195.00 which includes all cost of parts and return shipping (parts may be tubes, connectors, or capacitors, about 20 parts maybe installed.)...Read Full ArticleRead Full Article
We are very experienced in the repair and modification of this crossover. Our modification upgrades the power handling of the speaker to accommodate 100watt amps and the dynamic range of CD, improves fidelity, phase response and correctness, and allows the speaker to output stronger bass. We replace or add on certain crucial value capacitors and resistors to correct the midrange sound to be equal to the woofer and tweeter. We also "sharpen" the crossover...Read Full ArticleRead Full Article
Vince used to work for Apt and has developed certain upgrades to increase the reliability, longevity, and also the fidelity of these already remarkable preamps and amplifiers. The APT 1 Amplifier and Apt Preamp upgrade consists of three levels to suit your modification needs. The APT 1 amplifier is a truly advanced product and even by today's standard, a very modern audiophile amplifier design. Some of it's design technology is only now being implemented in fancy name equipment. Seldom are so many of it's clever design tricks for correctly stabilized feed back circuits, optimized impedance matching both at input stage design, power supply and output amplifier circuit have been utilized in total (even compared to fancier products.)...Read Full ArticleRead Full Article

APT Holman Preamp Upgrade:
Level 1: We repair the obvious faults and clean all controls and switches. We replace any obviously bad capacitors and do only minor upgrades....Read Full Article
The boards are adapted to as close of input impedance match as possible when ordered (and noted on website). Many boards 210, 201A 202 etc. are very similar but differ in subtle ways because M.C. cartridge designs (even same models) varied in performance, especially in low frequency "equalization" and output level. We at APT tried to keep up with this matter and attempted to calibrate each card to within +/- 1db at 50hz (lows) for specific cartridges, but it was getting too complicated when more different M.C. designs kept coming. 201 or 202, A, B whatever, were often updated with a multi parallel input transistor board (to change impedance, slight gain, against noise parameter, etc.)....Read Full ArticleRead Full Article

The Mod for the ART Pro MPA II is very simple. More shielding, rescaling the gain control for more correct range, noise suppression in power supply, and a few cap changes. It's not about serious problems of quality (ART unit design is better than $1000-$2000 units!!!) It's about some minor issues with attaining super spec....Read Full ArticleRead Full Article
All in one Microphone preamp, Harmonic Enhancement controller, tube compressor design. The ART PRO MPA when fully modified is $980. It is truly still unique for some of the clever adjustment capabilities. The most obvious is the ability to adjust the level and phase of a very euphonic second harmonic distortion which is then gain rided. The preamp can sound thick, punchy, dense, edgy, silky, warm, strident, etc. It's not just equalization… it is an alteration and enhancement of the original audio signal. The ART SLA-1 is an excellent quality, one rack space, 100 watt per channel amplifier. Although priced inexpensively, it is a well-built, very serviceable design that uses common parts and high-quality connectors and circuit components. The original design is done well out of the box, but we do some small and clever updates to make it a little more audiophile. ...Read Full ArticleRead Full Article
It appears that ART actually did take my advice and used some of my design concepts in the TPS II Preamp. The ART TPS II is a well built and flexible preamp with one control to vary the tube gain harmonic and equalization characteristics. The original TPS II system is a bit too heavy handed and obvious when processing the preamp signal. I correct this to an even higher quality sounding device with a more usable euphonic character. The $220 rev 6 version modification makes this unit even more tempered across the fifteen presets and creates a nicer "tube" sound. This machine is beautifully built and nicer looking than even some of the really fancy stuff on the market....Read Full ArticleRead Full Article
