Read Full ArticleWe have been supplying a substitute same motor it's just branded as Matsushita, who were the original maker (supplied with the pioneer name on it). Send a picture including the operating voltage and the direction of the main motor. (probably counter clock wise) The Motor for the inter idler drive will fit same but may run in FF or Rewind slightly faster or slower, but the deck will operate correctly. We have done this before but sold thru the available motors. A technician will be required to remove the existing pulleys and mount back onto the new motor shaft. Read Full ArticleA little bit of advice on old analogue equipment: controls like knobs and switches are mechanical devices in themselves and so require some specific care. These parts operate on metal (usually carbon) runners which can wear and corrode. Whenever working on a machine, we thoroughly clean and lubricate the controls, often 2 to 3 times over until clean. They can be difficult to successfully clean on some old equipment such as tube designs or even more recent machines that come from a smoky or moist environment (even proximity to major highways where there is a higher concentration of sulfur oxide and carbon oxides). These conditions can be more corrosive or staining to metal switch parts, making cleaning difficult but absolutely crucial. After returning a serviced unit to a customer, the cleaners remain active for about 2 weeks, so we recommend the controls be exercised occasionally to work in the cleaner. In general it is a good rule of thumb to exercise these controls at least once every 2 or 3 months just to keep the contact buffed. ...Read Full Article

More and more music lovers are realizing that many older design woofers are still very competitive performing with modern parts and so it's worthwhile to replace woofer surrounds. Personally, I've seen older Advent, HH Scott, some Infinity, the better original KLH, and especially a wide range of AR woofers that can perform better than some esoteric parts. Magnet, voice coil, and cone technology has made some great strides in improvement today, but most consumer-grade chain marketing speakers are certainly inferior to the great designs of the 60's to the 80's....Read Full Article

Playing with the on off switch a few times gets it going for 5 or 10 minutes and then the problem repeats itself. I spent $40 a few years ago for a shop in Northboro to tell me that they could not repair it since they did not have the service manual.
